The Secret

Reviews | April 2019

April started off as a really good reading month, but ended up not being so great towards the end because that's when I went into a reading slump that I couldn't really get out of it. I spent this month trying to catch up to my Goodreads goal so I read a lot of shorter books. It would've worked out if I kept it up but unfortunately, life had other plans. But, reviews! Reviews Bossman by Vi Keeland I don't know what it was about this book that didn't do it for me. I really thought this was going to be another one of those steamy books I love, but for the most part, it was okay. I think the past vs. present story line wasn't something I really enjoyed. While I get that the author was trying to show the tragic past of the male protagonist, I felt like it was dragged on too long. It could've been told as a prologue and then I would've felt more attachment seeing his side of the story as well. I found this to be a little predictable and overall meh in the sex...

Stacking the Shelves (5)

Stacking the Shelves  is hosted by  Tynga's Reviews  as a way to share all the books we've received this week! Cinders & Sapphires (At Somerton #1) by Leila Rasheed Ohhhhhhh. This sounds scandalously delicious . I must admit that I'm a bit iffy since it only has a 3.48 rating on goodreads, but I'm willing to give this Historical fiction a try.  Well that's all for me. What'd y'all get this week? Be sure to let me know in the comments below! All the best ♥ Mackenzie

Rift (Nightshade Prequel #1) by Andrea Cremer

Rift (Nightshade Prequel #1) by Andrea Cremer Pages: 431 Source: Library Format: Hardback Rating: Really enjoyed it! (4 stars) Goodreads Synopsis: Chronicling the rise of the Keepers, this is the stunning prequel to Andrea Cremer's internationally bestselling Nightshade trilogy! Sixteen-year-old Ember Morrow is promised to a group called Conatus after one of their healers saves her mother's life. Once she arrives, Ember finds joy in wielding swords, learning magic, and fighting the encroaching darkness loose in the world. She also finds herself falling in love with her mentor, the dashing, brooding, and powerful Barrow Hess. When the knights realize Eira, one of their leaders, is dabbling in dark magic, Ember and Barrow must choose whether to follow Eira into the nether realm or to pledge their lives to destroying her and her kind. With action, adventure, magic, and tantalizing sensuality, this book is as fast-paced and breathtaking as the Nightshade novels. *Sadly, I'm afr...

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter #3) by J.K. Rowling Pages: 435 Source: Own Format: Hardback Rating: It's Harry Potter. Of course I loved it!  Goodreads Synopsis: Harry Potter is lucky to reach the age of thirteen, since he has already survived the murderous attacks of the feared Dark Lord on more than one occasion. But his hopes for a quiet term concentrating on Quidditch are dashed when a maniacal mass-murderer escapes from Azkaban, pursued by the soul-sucking Dementors who guard the prison. It's assumed that Hogwarts is the safest place for Harry to be. My Review: (This is a Re-read) Can I tell y'all something? This is actually the first book I ever read of Harry Potter. Yup, I actually started with book #3. Books I'm Looking forward to: 2013 edition

With each new year comes some awesome new books. There are tons of books I'm looking forward to and this is in no way a complete list, but here are some books that I'm incredibly excited for (especially the sequels!!).  Books I'm Looking Forward To: 2013 Prophecy by Ellen Oh The greatest warrior in all of the Seven Kingdoms... is a girl with yellow eyes. I love a girl who can kick some butt. Plus there are Demons, prophecies, and a Demon Lord? Yeah, I'm down for that. She's the country's last hope. Should be fun!  Mind Games by Kiersten White  Kiersten White. 'Nuff said. City of A Thousand Dolls by Miriam Forester First off, love the cover. Second off, she lives in an isolated community where orphaned girls can become healers, musicians, courtesans, and maybe even assassins. Honestly, any book that even hints at assassins is the book for me. This sounds like an amazing fantasy world that I can't wait to delve into.   Scarlet  (Lunar Chronicles #2) by...
