The Secret

Reviews | April 2019

April started off as a really good reading month, but ended up not being so great towards the end because that's when I went into a reading slump that I couldn't really get out of it. I spent this month trying to catch up to my Goodreads goal so I read a lot of shorter books. It would've worked out if I kept it up but unfortunately, life had other plans. But, reviews! Reviews Bossman by Vi Keeland I don't know what it was about this book that didn't do it for me. I really thought this was going to be another one of those steamy books I love, but for the most part, it was okay. I think the past vs. present story line wasn't something I really enjoyed. While I get that the author was trying to show the tragic past of the male protagonist, I felt like it was dragged on too long. It could've been told as a prologue and then I would've felt more attachment seeing his side of the story as well. I found this to be a little predictable and overall meh in the sex...

Review: Kiss of Broken Glass by Madeleine Kuderick

Title: Kiss of Broken Glass Author:  Madeleine Kuderick Publisher: HarperTeen Release date: September 9th 2014 Pages: 224 Genre: Young Adult contemporary Source: Edelweiss - I received a free eGalley of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thanks! Add to Goodreads | Purchase from Amazon In the next seventy-two hours, Kenna may lose everything—her friends, her freedom, and maybe even herself. One kiss of the blade was all it took to get her sent to the psych ward for seventy-two hours. There she will face her addiction to cutting, though the outcome is far from certain. When fifteen-year-old Kenna is found cutting herself in the school bathroom, she is sent to a facility for mandatory psychiatric watch. There, Kenna meets other kids like her—her roommate, Donya, who’s there for her fifth time; the birdlike Skylar; and Jag, a boy cute enough to make her forget her problems . . . for a moment. My rating: 3 out of 5 stars I love the premise of Kiss of Br...

Review: Falling into Place by Amy Zhang

Title: Falling into Place Author: Amy Zhang Publisher: Greenwillow Books Release date: September 9th 201 4 Pages: 304 Genre: Young Adult contemporary Source: BEA 2014 Add to Goodreads  |  Purchase from Amazon Why? Why did Liz Emerson decide that the world would be better off without her? Why did she give up? Vividly told by an unexpected and surprising narrator, this heartbreaking and nonlinear novel pieces together the short and devastating life of Meridian High’s most popular junior girl. Mass, acceleration, momentum, force—Liz didn’t understand it in physics, and even as her Mercedes hurtles toward the tree, she doesn’t understand it now. How do we impact one another? How do our actions reverberate? What does it mean to be a friend? To love someone? To be a daughter? Or a mother? Is life truly more than cause and effect? My rating: 4 out of 5 stars Falling Into Place combines so many factors that I usually hate - an omniscient narrator, non-linear storytelling with lots of...

The One With the Top 10 Books I Really Want to Read but Don't Own Yet

Top Ten Tuesday  is a weekly meme brought to you by  The Broke and the Bookish .  Each week a new Top Ten list topic is posted and book bloggers fill in their own choices.  This Week's Topics is Top 10 Books I Really Want to Read But Don't Own Yet So I could've easily made a whole list of books that aren't out yet that I would give up my first born for (I kid....possibly). But, I realized that there are a lot of books, especially series, that I haven't yet finished and would really love to. So, this list is split in half. The first half consists of book series that I've started, but don't yet have the final books. The second half consists of books coming out in the future that I'm incredibly psyched for.  Already Released 1. Allegiant  (Divergent #3)  by Veronica Roth I read Divergent when it first came out a long time ago. In between waiting for the next in the series, I found new books to read. Which means this series was left by the wayside. Th...

Obviously I need to buy Isla as soon as possible. 3.  Fault Line  by Christa Desir I love Christa Desir's Bleed Like Me , and Christa is awesome on Twitter, so I really need to read her debut. 4.  Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar I feel like everyone who has read Raw Blue has loved it like no other; I don't think I've read a single bad review for this one. I re...

The One Where I Explain My Unexplained Absence

I'm  ALIVEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Yes, I'm sure that most of you probably thought something horrible happened to me since I basically became nonexistent over the past couple weeks. Sorry. But I have a good explanation. I promise. And it's a doozy..... I had no internet. Shocker, I know! How, oh how, did I live before the wondrous internet deemed me worthy of its time? These past couple weeks of lack of internet have really given me time to take a step back and figure out my priorities. And I've realized by priorities include Netflix. #NoShame. And blogging. Oh how I missed you blogging! See, I didn't know that I wasn't going to have internet, else I may have scheduled stuff (just kidding, when do I ever schedule posts?). I was planning on taking a couple days off because I was moving to my new apartment, but I hadn't realized my roommate hadn't had internet hooked up yet. I said no big deal because I thought I could set it up when I got there and they'd come t...
