The Secret

Reviews | April 2019

April started off as a really good reading month, but ended up not being so great towards the end because that's when I went into a reading slump that I couldn't really get out of it. I spent this month trying to catch up to my Goodreads goal so I read a lot of shorter books. It would've worked out if I kept it up but unfortunately, life had other plans. But, reviews! Reviews Bossman by Vi Keeland I don't know what it was about this book that didn't do it for me. I really thought this was going to be another one of those steamy books I love, but for the most part, it was okay. I think the past vs. present story line wasn't something I really enjoyed. While I get that the author was trying to show the tragic past of the male protagonist, I felt like it was dragged on too long. It could've been told as a prologue and then I would've felt more attachment seeing his side of the story as well. I found this to be a little predictable and overall meh in the sex...

The One Where I Review SHADOW AND BONE (for the 2nd time)

Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo Source: Bought Format: Hardback Pages: 356 Goodreads Synopsis: The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free? The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfill her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him. But what of Mal, Alina’s childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can’t she ever quite forget him? Glorious. Epic. Irresistible. Romance. Bardugo is a goddess amongst men. Normally when I re-read, I still love the book, but I already know what's happ...

The One With the YA Prom

Welcome! Welcome. To the YA Prom! The YA prom is a wonderful event hosted by the lovelies Gaby ( Queen Ella Bee Reads ) and Alexa ( Alexa Love's Books ). This is an event where you pick your fave YA Prom date, dress, hairstyle, makeup, etc., to attend prom in the YA world.  And guys, let me tell you, this is hard. I didn't want to pick just one. Actually, I was truly contemplating just having a bunch of men on my arm, but I don't want a fight breaking out or anything. Who would I root for?! Also, I hope there are more of these events and don't want to use up all the ridiculously good-looking men in one event!  So, who have I decided to pick this time? Well, I'll give you a hint: He's hot, sarcastic, witty, rakish, swoony, and perhaps the biggest turn on, intelligent. Yes, I'm all for being really, really, ridiculously good looking, a wealthy prince, a cocky pirate, and having the sarcastic personality to match my own. But, it's a bajillion bonus points i...

The One With All the Stuff (1)

Sooooooo I know there are a ton of post sign-ups for showing what you got this past week, but I'm not sure which one I want to join so for now I'm just sticking with a generic weekly books post a la me. That blog post name is rather creative, no? Though, this one definitely isn't for this past week alone. More like the past month. Or more. It's been a while.... So what books have I gotten? Why, I'm so glad you asked! I made money so of course I bought books (though I restrained myself rather well). Heartbreaking books. Beautiful books. These first two books are series enders that tore my heart, and yet made me love them. The last is just awesome. The Forever Song (Blood of Eden, #3) by Julie Kagawa I didn't know what to expect from series end and I was pleasantly surprised by the way this went. It was non-stop action and heartbreak with a bit of humor thrown in. There are hard decisions and sacrifice and wonderfulness. If you haven't read this series yet, I...

Review | Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

I'm not even sure if I was expecting Mockingjay to be any good because I loved The Hunger Games and Catching Fire so much. But I know I wasn't expecting to be so disappointed either. The first two books gave me all the feels and I expected no less from the third. While there were some parts that were redeeming, for the most part, I didn't like Mockingjay . The best thing about the first books, for me, were the characters. I loved Katniss and fell in love with the boy with the bread, Peeta, with her. I adored her sister Prim and wanted nothing more than to run away with Gale, but Mockingjay was different. While we spend a considerable more time with the main people in her life, I didn't love them the same way. Maybe the author's writing changed, or maybe because the setting was so different from the first two or maybe it was because Katniss was such a weak character in the third book, but my love for the characters was altered and I just read the book to finish i...

The One with Top Ten Tuesday #2

Top Ten Tuesday  is a weekly meme brought to you by  The Broke and the Bookish .  Each week a new Top Ten list topic is posted and book bloggers fill in their own choices.  This week's topic is: TOP 10 BOOKS ON MY SUMMER TBR So, as y'all know from my post last week, I've dedicated this summer to series. So, instead of posting about each individual book, if it's part of a series I'm reading, I'm just going to group them together.  The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo  This is one of my series re-reads for the summer. Why? In preparation for this last book, of course! Gah! This series! The beautiful world-building, the amazing characters, the Grisha! So complex and just all-around phenomenal. I've read the first one and part of the second book, and let me tell you, it's just as good the second time around! Maybe it's because I don't remember all the details (part of the reason for re-reading) but I was never bored. All the emotions I felt the first...

The One Where I Review THE FALCONER

The Falconer (The Falconer #1) by Elizabeth May Source: Bought Format: Hardback Pages: 378 - Also known as too short. Goodreads Synopsis: Heiress. Debutant. Murderer.
