The Secret

Reviews | April 2019

April started off as a really good reading month, but ended up not being so great towards the end because that's when I went into a reading slump that I couldn't really get out of it. I spent this month trying to catch up to my Goodreads goal so I read a lot of shorter books. It would've worked out if I kept it up but unfortunately, life had other plans. But, reviews! Reviews Bossman by Vi Keeland I don't know what it was about this book that didn't do it for me. I really thought this was going to be another one of those steamy books I love, but for the most part, it was okay. I think the past vs. present story line wasn't something I really enjoyed. While I get that the author was trying to show the tragic past of the male protagonist, I felt like it was dragged on too long. It could've been told as a prologue and then I would've felt more attachment seeing his side of the story as well. I found this to be a little predictable and overall meh in the sex...

The One With the Last Day of Armchair BEA

Welcome to the last post of Armchair BEA! It’s a bit bittersweet, but I’ve had an awesome time so far, despite computer problems and moving preventing me from putting up some posts. This was my first year participating and I absolutely loved it! Between the awesome Twitter parties, the great new bloggers I’ve met and the awesome giveaways and topics, I’ve had a blast! I know this is INCREDIBLY last minute, but I just wanted to put up a summary post and include a post I meant to put up the other day but lacked time because I decided to pack last minute :P So, without further ado, here is the topic: MG/YA Woohoo! This is my kind of topic! If you couldn’t tell from that gorgeous banner up top there, I blog about YA books. Don’t worry, I delve into MG books and even adult a few times, but my favorites by far are YA. So, in honor of MG/YA, I want to share a list of my favorite books with you. This is hard. REALLY hard. But hopefully I can some good recommendations to some who may be a bit a...

The One Where I Introduce Myself For ARMCHAIR BEA

It's that time of year again. The time when book bloggers, authors and all bookish fans get together in the NYC for the great meet and greet known as BEA. For those of us not lucky enough (read: poor college student) to attend the real life version of BEA, there is the great internet version known as Armchair BEA so that we unlucky folk can get a taste of the great big BEA in our own little corner of the internet.     Here is the Armchair BEA's Mission Statement: Armchair BEA is the experience for book bloggers to participate in Book Expo America (BEA) from the comfort of their homes. This experience is created lovingly by book bloggers specifically for our peers who for whatever reason are not able to participate in the main conference in New York each year. We bring publishers, authors, and bloggers together in celebrating our love for all things literary by hosting celebrations such as sneak peeks, daily discussion topics, and sponsored giveaways. ...

The One With the End of Bout of Books 10.0

Well, this whirlwind of a week is now over.  Bout of Books 10.0 = I SURVIVEDDDD!!!! Guyssss I hit my goal of three books! Woohoo!! That right there is worth celebrating in and of itself. Even better? I got 247 pages into my 4th book. HECK YEAH!  So, what are my final stats for Bout of Books 10.0? I'm glad you asked. Pages read today: 40 Books completed: Poison Dance The Falconer The Winner's Curse Currently Reading:  House of Hades  (Heroes of Olympus #4) - 328 pages in Total Pages Read: 1,147 - WHAT?! I just calculated this and read over 1,000 PAGES! CRAZY!!!! Thoughts: Guyyssssss I DID IT!!!! I'm so beyond proud of myself! No lie, this is probably the first read-a-thon where I've actually met my goal and didn't have to change it. Makes me happy! I also participated in a Twitter-chat and had a blast. Met and followed some awesome new people. Though some of those questions were hard to answer! Ex - In response to Q1 - "If I could only read one genre for th...

The One Where I Retitle House of Hades

I've decided to partake in the last mini-challenge of Bout Of Books 10.0.  This wonderful little challenge is being hosted by  Oh Magic Hour  where you retitle your current read. My current read is: House of Hades Oh, this book. I'm actually rather proud of some of the names I've come up with for this one. The One Where Seven Demigods Just Can't Catch a Break House of Horrors House of Everything that Could Possibly Go Wrong Going Wrong Adventures in Tartarus My Ship is Better than Your Ship and it Still Gets Beat Up All about Bob Death Without Bob The Story of How the World Would Have Ended Without Bob Oh, I could've come up with PLENTY more. I just didn't want to give away too many spoilers. So, if you can't tell from those wonderfully happy titles, everything that could go wrong goes wrong and it makes for some awesome adventures. Sure, I feel awful for them and Riordan takes em through Hades and back, but it sure makes for some good reading (GO BOB!)!

The One With Day 6 Updates

Pages Read: 206 Books completed: Poison Dance The Falconer The Winner's Curse Currently Reading:  House of Hades (Heroes of Olympus #4) My Feelings In A GIF My Feelings In Words GAHHHH! CAN'T BELIEVE I WAITED THIS LONG TO READ THIS BOOK!!!! PERCABETHHHHH!!! Okay, so as you may now know, I love all things Percy Jackson. Rick Riordan can do no wrong (even though that cliffhanger in the last book was just  cold and spiteful) so I decided to pick this book as my last awesome read for #boutofbooks. I probably won't finish it cause this book is a chunker (586 pages!) and as much as I love my mother she is currently on a cleaning rampage and I am in her path....so how much reading I'll get done today (Day 7)? No idea. Oh well. It's the last day #boutofbookers GO FORTH AND READ!

The One With Day 5 Updates

Pages Read: 155 Books completed: Poison Dance The Falconer The Winner's Curse Currently Reading: Nothing - I'm still reeling from The Winner's Curse and had to take a break from reading.  My Feelings About Winner's Curse in a GIF My Feelings in Words I just couldn't help but fall in love! I wasn't quite sure initially whether I'd like it or not. Sure, it had a ton of hype surrounding it (which caused me to buy it immediately) but I was hesitant. This hesitation was for naught.  What a beautiful and heartbreaking story filled with action, war, politics and strategy. And pretty dresses. Can't forget the pretty dresses. But underneath it all, a story of friendship and finding your way. So beautiful. It was actually so good that I couldn't get myself to start another book (though I had plenty of time) because I just needed to think through all that I'd read.  However, I have 2 days left and I WILL complete another book....well, at least start one :) ...

The One With Day 4 Updates

Day 4 = Complete Pages read:  200 Books completed: Poison Dance The Falconer Currently Reading: The Winner's Curse Feelings About The Winner's Curse in a GIF Feelings About the Winner's Curse in Words This book had a LOT of hype surrounding it. The One with Day 1 Updates

I SURVIVED DAY ONE!!!!  ^You're welcome To bad I failed ridiculously well in the area of reading. I blame the fact that I was driving a good chunk of the day. Can't exactly read and drive simultaneously. Well, you could, technically,   just probably shouldn't. I was tempted though.... Moving on....  Pages read: 64 (awesome right?)
